30 yrs ago today...
It was a dark night. There was a pressure in the air that i couldnt understand. The weather was changing. I never knew fear before, but the unfamiliarity of the situation was truly frightening me. All my life i had felt secure, warm and... something else i couldnt quite define.
The storm continued to brew and this time the pressure intensified. i felt as though the walls were closing in on me. I begin to panic as i feel the claustrophobia setting in. I have no way to run. I stretch my legs and meet resistance. My arms are stuck to my sides. Even my head is locked fest.
From deep within me i feel a sob rising up. I am desperate and alone. The utter sadness of the moment consumes me as i realize that this is perhaps my end. The storm is not passing by. I am in the eye of the storm and it is about to sweep me away.
In a last effort to preserve myself, i inch forward. I see a dim light before me which brings me hope. Perhaps if i could only get to where the light is....
I am dying! The light is so bright that i swear i have fallen deep into a pool of snow. The cold takes my breath away and i writhe in pain, my senses exploding from the overstimulation.
There is movement around me! I am not alone. My cries give voice to the words my heart can yet not formulate. "Help!"
All is still and i realize i am no longer cold. I've held my eyes squeezed tightly shut so as to block out the blinding light for the longest time. But now curiosity gets the best of me and i venture a tiny peek...
I cannot believe my eyes.
Before my brand new eyes...are you, mama & papi.
And this loving moment is when my life begun.
